The journal aims to keep Australian psychologists informed about current issues in psychology, the science and practice of psychology, and psychology’s contribution to public policy, with particular emphasis on the Australian context. The journal also regularly features international contributions to facilitate scholarly exchange with Australian psychologists.Australian Psychologist publishes original contributions on the following topics of relevance for the science and practice of psychology: Development, evaluation, and use of psychological assessments and treatments Empirical (quantitative and/or qualitative) studies of populations, including but not limited to individuals with disorders of mental health, and members of the Australian community Studies related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cross-cultural and demographic matters Studies of gender, ethnicity, sexuality and sexual orientation, or diversity Studies of personality, where these have a clear relevance to mental health, wellbeing, and the provision of psychological assessment and treatment Studies of lifespan and developmental issues, where these have a clear relevance to mental health, wellbeing, and the provision of psychological assessment and treatment Studies of clinical, community, counselling, health, forensic, neuropsychological, organizational and sport and exercise psychology Quantitative and narrative reviews (e.g., meta-analyses, systematic reviews), qualitative research, commentaries, and methodologically sound case studies pertinent to the preceding topicsPeriodically, APS documents may appear in the journal, including, but not limited to: position papers, reports, ethics information, surveys of the membership, announcements, and selected award addresses.Australian Psychologist regularly publishes special sections or special issues on particular topics. Proposals for special sections or issues should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief for review and comment by the Editorial Board prior to inviting/ developing the manuscripts.
